This cropped boxy tee brings Johanna July into the present. Born around 1850, July was a Black Seminole cowgirl whose family eventually settled along the Texas-Mexico border. Known as a skilled horsewoman, she rode bareback, broke wild horses, herded cattle, and built a reputation for handling horses at a time when the popular image of the American cowboy rarely made room for women like her.
The design reimagines July’s historic portrait through a contemporary lens—a reminder that Black and Indigenous women were a part of Western history.
Made from pigment-dyed cotton, the tee has a lived-in, vintage finish that complements the historical inspiration while its cropped, boxy silhouette keeps it decidedly modern. Subtle variations in the dye make each piece unique, and the substantial fabric and reinforced shoulders help it hold its shape through repeated wear.
